flinch.
flinch. are a 4 piece Emo/Alt Rock band from Glasgow. Originally the solo project of songwriter and guitarist Beth Black during lockdown, she set about writing midwestern Emo inspired songs with unusual titles, named with her understated sense of humour. She proudly released her first single - 'Escape from Rupture Farms' in Dec 2020, followed shortly afterwards by her debut long player 'Enough is Enough' in Apr 2021.
Beth continued to play out and about over the following few months whenever possible but almost a year later, craving a full band sound and the gang ethos, she sent personal invites out for a bass player, drummer and lead guitarist. These were duly accepted and flinch. the band were formed.
They have been calibrating their sound and presence ever since by touring, regular gigs (including some choice support slots), and festival appearances throughout the country. The DIY punk scene has welcomed them with open arms and the four firm friends have jumped right in, immersing themselves in the atmosphere and camaraderie.
Quitter
Setting confessional storytelling within a noisy, emotive musical landscape, the music of Quitter aka Kenny Bates is alternative singer-songwriter at its core, flavoured by ‘90s US indie, slacker rock and slowcore. A quick listen will yield influence from the likes of American Football, David Pajo and Pavement, through to Mitksi, Conor Oberst and Songs: Ohia.
The album ‘Monument Road’ was released on vinyl in September 2023 via collaboration with Gold Mold Records and Heavenly Creature Records. A short run of release shows around Scotland included sold out dates at The Glad Cafe (Glasgow) and Mediterranea (Stirling), and near capacity shows at the Banshee Labyrinth (Edinburgh) and The Blue Lamp (Aberdeen). The band were also invited to perform in-store at Assai Records Glasgow and Edinburgh, Europa Music and HMV.
The album, singles and music videos received airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music (Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone) and widespread coverage from independent music press, radio and blogs throughout the release campaign, as well as making end-of-year lists from Scottish new music tastemakers.
